Intro letter

24th Aug 2022

Dear parents & children of St. Michael’s PS,

As a past pupil, of one of the four schools which now make up St. Michael’s, I am deeply honoured and humbled to be rejoining such a wonderful school community. As the new principal of St. Michael’s, I want to express my delight at the huge honour bestowed upon me. I look forward to working alongside pupils, staff, parents, parishes (Donagheady & Leckpatrick) and Board of Governors whilst continuing to lead, maintain and grow closer links between school, home and all within our community.

I am fortunate that such strong educational foundations have been laid by Mrs Carlin and all the hard working staff of St. Michael’s. These foundations were backboned by the four pillars of Altishane, Loughash, St. Joseph’s and St. Patrick’s. I would like to thank all the staff, parents and wider communities of these four school in helping create the rock solid foundations I’ve inherited. I, along with the staff, will continue to strive and serve the needs of all the children so they can reach their full potential.

A child’s journey through school is uniquely supported by their first teachers, their parents. I envisage a strong working partnership with you, the parents, that ensures our joint efforts from school and home are child centred which undoubtedly ensures long term success.

I am aware that some of our children may be anxious about starting school again. Especially our P1 children who will be making the transition from nursery into primary education. To help alleviate any unnecessary worry, St. Michael’s will be open on Tuesday 30th August from 9.30-10.30am. This is an optional opportunity for you, the parent, to bring your child into school and to help familiarise themselves with their teacher, assistants, classroom and school environment. The new school polos and half zips are here as well and can be collected on the day.

On Thursday, 1st September, the pupils can anticipate a warm welcome as they begin a new school year and I am sure we will be celebrating many school achievements and memories for everyone associated with our beautiful school.

Classroom arrangements will be:

Primary 1&2

Mrs O’Hagan

Primary 3&4

Mrs Carlin

Primary 5&6

Miss Devine

Primary 7

Mr O’Neill & Mrs Quigley

I look forward to meeting you all in person and working together to ensure we have a safe, happy, healthy and successful year ahead.

My kind regards,

Mr S. O’Neill
