School Council
St Michael’s PS established its first school council early in the second term of its first year. The school council would normally meet on a monthly basis, but was suspended during the various lockdowns and has yet to be reintroduced. It is made up of pupils elected from each class. The school council enables different classes to become aware of each other’s problems. It discusses issues that need to be addressed at a whole school level. The elected pupils represent the views of their own class at the school council meeting. The school council then reports back to each class on the outcome. For example, the school council has already set out play zones in the playground to allow everyone to play more safely and happily, and put up poster to encourage everyone to put litter in the bin.
The school council contributes to positive changes in the lives of every child in the school. It involves them in real issues and helps them to develop important life-skills that promote mental and social well-being.
