Santa's Surprise Visit today to St Michael's

3rd Dec 2020

Santa surprised the boys and girls of St Michael’s PS when he arrived early to assist the Mayor of Derry and Strabane District, Mr Brian Tierney, to distribute selection boxes to all the pupils. The arrival of Santa and the Mayor was accompanied by screams of delight and a chorus of Jingle Bells. The event was organised to distribute Christmas Mindful packs to all the pupils. The packs were funded by Dennet Interchange, in partnership with the Rural Area Partnership in Derry (RAPID NI).

All the local community groups including Aughabrack and District Community Association and Glenmornan District association are continuing to support rural families and communities during this ongoing pandemic. McKeown’s, the local Day-to-Day shop added to the occasion by supplying selection boxes for the pupils, since Covid restrictions prevented a Christmas visit by some of the classes to the shop.

The Principal Mrs Jacqueline Carlin thanked the groups for their support during these challenging times and said the packs were a welcome addition to help to make Christmas celebrations for all the children. She assured Santa, that all the pupils had been perfectly behaved and hoped that they would get their Christmas wishes from their lists. The pupils gave Santa three rousing cheers before he left and a great state of excitement continued until home-time.
